Sharon Angle's Pastor Lashes out on Mormons--could this help Reid gain conservative Mormons?

Harry Reid and Sharron Angle had their first and only public debate this week.  When asked to chose one word to describe their competition each chose words they felt would improve their chances of winning office. Angle called Reid an "elite" and Reid chose the word "extreme" to describe Angle.

More recently Angle's Pastor has lashed out on Mormons calling them a cult and saying their leadership hires "assassins" to get rid of unwanted leaders or people around the world.

This poses a sticky issues for Conservative Mormons--do they support the conservative who has ties to an anti-Mormon pastor or a good standing Mormon who has different political views.

Michael Otterson Voices Church's Response to HRC's Petition

Michael Otterson delivers Church's response to the Human Rights Corp activists group.  The HRC group gathered over 150,000 signatures and condemned the Church of prejudice etc.  I was very impressed with the Church's response.  It was very thoughtful, and very professional.  The Church condemns any actions to belittle or judge others that are different from most Church members.  The Church encourages its members to obey Christ's second great commandment to love one another.  It's not a sin to have feelings, only to yield to temptation.  Their struggle is our struggle.  Happiness in this life can be found by all.

The Huffington Post--exagerrates Beck commentary

It's almost like The Huffington Post wants to create their own conspiracy theory of Glenn Beck and Mormons while criticising Beck and his theories at the same time.

This article show cases the White House Prophesy.  Joseph Smith has been credited with making a prosphecy that the Constitution will hang by a thread and the Elders of Israel will come to rescue and save the nation.

The Huffington Post has tried to tag this to Orrin Hatch or Mitt Romney.  Sounds a little silly for such a big newspaper to get caught up in supposed prophesy made in the 1800's.

Max Hall might start Friday and Austin Collie's put up good numbers

Speculation has it that Max Hall might start this Friday in their game against New Orleans.

    Glenn Beck: Lincoln Memorial Rally

August 28, 1963, exactly 47 years ago, in this same spot at the Lincoln Memorial, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream Speech.”  Glenn Beck, one of the most powerful conservative voices and a Fox News broadcaster, organized this rally.  There were estimates of 300,000-600,000 attendees.  Beck is a passionate speaker and unabashed Mormon whose radio programs include a mix of moral lessons, frequent outrage, and his strong beliefs to call America back to its roots.

The feel of the meeting was said to be something like a religious revival.  People in the crowd echoed Mr. Beck’s ideas that “progressives” were moving the United States toward socialism and that entitlement programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid must be ended.

He’s a tough-talking critic who draws millions of avid followers and is one who draws strong emotions one way or another out of other political voices.

Door to Door as Missionaries, Then as Salesmen

mormon missionary door to door salesman
The notorious nuisance; the door-to-door salesman. For most Americans, this profession only enters their minds when one sneaks up on their door, and is dismissed just as quickly. But for the Latter-day Saint culture of Utah county, the thought weighs heavily on every poor college kid strapped for cash, hoping to make at least enough money to keep Ramen noodles on the table the following semester. Should I do door-to-door sales this summer and sacrifice the fun in the sun and pretty faces of Provo in the summer?

Two schools of thought exist in Utah County regarding those who choose to sell during the summer. Some respect those who choose to work hard and support themselves with the money they work hard to make while selling door-to-door. While others feel that the profession takes advantage of skills developed by young men who have served a church mission. Regardless of what you may think, it is important for these salesman to recognize that the country is starting to identify this correlation. The behavior of these salesman will reflect on the church that many of them belong to. Keep in mind there is more than the balance of your bank account that is at stake here.

Mormon Sitings in Our Recent Past

    Mormons, Inc. TIME Magazine Cover

As we strive to bring current sitings of Mormons working and living in the public world around us, we thought we'd feature some major articles and sightings that have happened in the last few years.  Below we'll provide links to some major sitings that major media outlets have featured.

TIME Magazine titled an extensive article about the Church in 1997.  Below are some quotes we pulled:

"'It was in the 1950's,' says historian Jan Shipps, 'that the Mormons went from being 'vilified' to being 'venerated,' and their combination of family orientation, clean-cut optimism, honesty and pleasant aggressiveness seems increasingly in demand. Fifteen Mormon Senators and Representatives currently trek the halls of Congress.'"

    TIME Magazine Cover LDS Prophet

"The top beef ranch in the world is not the King Ranch in Texas. It is the Deseret Cattle & Citrus Ranch outside Orlando, Fla. It covers 312,000 acres; its value as real estate alone is estimated at $858 million. It is owned entirely by the Mormons. The largest producer of nuts in America, AgReserves, Inc., in Salt Lake City, is Mormon-owned."
The article goes on to talk about some prominent Church members including Jon Huntsman and others.  Click on the TIME cover to link to the original article.  The last time TIME magazine featured the Church was in 1947 with George Albert Smith.  He had a lazy eye from an accident while he was growing up and TIME decided to make it a focus on their cover page.
